Most popular scams in Discord what we found

Here is some of them and how to avoid them. We will update this once new method found.

💸 1. Free Nitro scams

  • Scammers send you a DM or mention you in a server, offering “Free Discord Nitro” with a suspicious link.

They often use:

  • Fake giveaway bots
  • Screenshots of “legit” giveaways
  • Impersonation of friends or admins

👉 How to avoid: Never click suspicious links or enter credentials on random sites. Official giveaways will never ask for your password.

🐼 2. Fake game or Steam key scams

You get a message like:

  • “Hey, I accidentally bought this game twice, here’s a spare key!”
  • “Test my game beta, here’s early access!”

Link leads to a phishing site or malware.

👉 How to avoid: Ignore “too good to be true” offers from strangers.

👥 3. Fake friend or admin impersonation

Scammer pretends to be:

  • Your friend (with same name + profile pic)
  • A server admin or mod or game

They may say:

  • “You broke server rules, click here to appeal”
  • “You won a prize, claim it here”

👉 How to avoid: Double-check usernames and mutual servers. Real admins won’t threaten bans via DMs.

🏆 4. Giveaway & raffle scams

  • You’re tagged in a “big server giveaway” with suspicious links.
  • Scammer asks you to connect your Discord or crypto wallet to “claim rewards.”

👉 How to avoid: Verify giveaways only in official channels. Never connect wallets to random sites.

💻 5. QR code / token theft

  • Scammer sends a QR code and says, “scan this for free Nitro” or “vote for me in a contest.”
  • The QR code steals your Discord login token.

👉 How to avoid: Never scan random QR codes in Discord DMs.

📩 6. Job offers or paid commissions scam

  • You’re offered a commission, partnership, or mod/admin role.
  • They send a file or link with malware.

👉 How to avoid: Be suspicious of random job offers. Scan all files before opening.

💰 7. Crypto / investment scams

  • You’re invited to “investment servers” promising guaranteed crypto profits.
  • May also promote pump-and-dump schemes.

👉 How to avoid: Stay away from investment schemes on Discord. They are rarely legit.

📂 8. Malicious files or links

  • Files sent via DMs (usually as .exe, .scr, or disguised as images).
  • Clicking can install malware, RATs (remote access trojans), or steal browser passwords.

👉 How to avoid: Never open suspicious files from strangers.

📩 9. Scam “One-channel, one-button” server trap and 🔞18+ adult servers

1) You join a server, often through an invite link in DMs, on social media, or from shady sites.
2) When you enter, you see only:

  • One visible channel (often named like #verify-here, #access, #entry, or #giveaway-claim).
  • One message, usually from a bot or fake admin, with a button like:
  • Verify here
  • Get access
  • Unlock server
  • Claim Nitro / Giveaway

3) Clicking the button runs a Discord OAuth exploit or triggers malicious actions via webhooks, self-bots, or permissions that you unknowingly authorize.

Result:

  • Your account token may get stolen.
  • Your account may be used to spam others.
  • You may lose access if the attacker changes your email/password.
  • If you have admin rights in other servers, the attacker may also try to compromise those communities.

👉 How to stay safe:

  • Never press buttons or authorize bots in unknown servers.
  • Check the server setup: legit servers have multiple channels, roles, and a public history.
  • Watch for suspicious bots asking for OAuth permissions like Manage Server or Administrator.
  • Enable 2FA on your account.
  • Leave the server immediately if it looks suspicious.

⚠ Additional tips:

✅ Enable 2FA (two-factor authentication) on your account.
✅ Only accept DMs from friends.
✅ Report and block suspicious users.
✅ Check server verification levels before engaging.

Conclusions

There are already quite a few fraudulent methods, and they are often replenished with new ones, unfortunately. 😢

  • Don't let scammers trick you and steal your data through discord. 💪
