Shadowmourne is a legendary two-handed axe which is obtained through an troublesome quest line available to Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors. Most of the quest must be completed in the 25-man instance, and can be completed in both normal and heroic boss mode
To begin the quest chain to obtain Shadowmourne, Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors must reach friendly reputation with The Ashen Verdict. Once the character has reached friendly Highlord Darion Mograine (in Icecrown Citadel) will offer The Sacred and the Corrupt.
To obtain Light's Vengeance, the player must travel to Northeastern Dargonblight. The hammer is located within the aptly named Frostmourne Cavern which is within the Scarlet Onslaught controlled territory along the mountains West of Light's Trust.
The other objects necessary to complete the quest include Festergut's Acidic Blood, Rotface's Acidic Blood, and 25 Primordial Saronite. Each blood will only drop once per kill per boss, so if there are two or more people on this quest they must decide who will obtain the blood or set of bloods. The saronite is fairly easy to obtain from ICC bosses, the auction house, or they can be purchased from any Legacy Justice Quartermaster for 266 Justice points.When the player has acquired all of the necessary items the quest can be turned in at the runeforge next to Highlord Darion Mograine near the entrance inside ICC. After completing The Sacred and the Corrupt Highlord Darion Mograine offers the player the second quest: Shadow's Edge. The Highlord presents the player with Shadow's Edge, completing the second quest in the chain.
After forging Shadowmourne Highlord Darion Mograine asks the player to finish the job and defeat The Lich King. Defeat The Lich King and complete the quest. As a new owner of Shadowmourne, however, Arthas will drop an add piece of loot called a Sealed Chest. The chest begins another short chain of quests with some excellent rewards — spoils from Arthas' secret stash.
